The democratically elected Rochdale Borough Children's Champion, Owen, is campaigning for more FREE after school sporting activities to be provided for children as many have no access or cannot afford it. Jeff from Wardle Bowling Club, saw this and got in touch to offer free crown green bowling to children with support and training on how to do it. He kindly visited the Children's Council and they all enjoyed bowling. We then met some of the members at Wardle Bowling Club and youth cabinet members joined too, trying bowling for the first time and having lots of fun.
Wardle Bowling Club have now offered free bowling on Thursdays, 16:00 - 17:00 from April to September for local children aged 10 plus. Jeff has also offered to open this up as a skill or activity which he can access to help pass their bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.
To help advertise and raise awareness of this, the Children's Council were set the challenge of designing a leaflet which can be shared with schools, community centres and online to encourage children to try bowling and hopefully spread this to other clubs across the Rochdale borough. Children attended their January meeting with 15 different designs and they voted which one they thought was the best. The winning design below by Muaz will now be used and shared to help provide free bowling for children. Please get in touch with us at youth.service@rochdale.gov.uk if you are interested, or give Jeff a call to give bowling a go!!
